October 9, 2008 (Salt Lake City, UT)  - US Speedskating is pleased to announce the results of the 2008 Athlete Representative Election.

Daniel Weinstein (Chestnut Hill, MA) was elected by USS elite athletes to serve as the Athlete Representative on the USS Board of Directors until 2010 when a new board will be elected.

During his skating career, Weinstein was a member of the 1998 and 2002 Short Track Olympic Teams, and earned several Short Track World Championship and World Cup medals, both individually and as a relay team member.  Weinstein graduated from Harvard in 2004, working for RSG, Inc., a market research consultancy.  He is currently entering his last year of graduate school at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

"I am excited about the possibility of serving as an Athlete Representative to the Board of Directors for US Speedskating," Weinstein says.  "In particular, I am anxious to apply the business skills that I have acquired over the years since I retired from competitive skating to the most pressing challenges that US Speedskating faces."

The Athlete Representative election was held to replace Mike Kooreman who resigned from the board after accepting the job of National Training Program Assistant Long Track Coach/Long Track Coordinator with US Speedskating.  Currently, Caroline Hallisey, Dave Cruikshank and Chris Needham serve as the three additional Athlete Representatives to the USS Board of Directors.  Patrick Meek and Brigid Farrell were the remaining two candidates in the 2008 election.
